The Hautes Côtes de Nuits has a limpid, crimson red color, which glows, almost as if it were illuminated from inside the glass. White cherries, red raspberries, and fresh rose petals move in and out of the foreground, sometimes alternating with black tea and sandalwood as the nose evolves over time. On the palate, the wine has a lovely, compact round mouthfeel, with a sylphlike core of red berry fruit, delicately seasoned with pine needles and white pepper. And if you give it a few minutes in the glass, the fresh hay and sous bois that perfume the warm summer breezes in the Hautes Côtes de Nuits take over.
