Aromas are almost incense-like, with heather, honey and a fruity softness- notes of pineapple, toast and cereal round out the nose. A bit syrupy on the palate, lingering on the tongue like a liqueur. Full bodied and full of flavor, the perfume characteristics become more spicy, with a bitter hint of Seville oranges in a decidedly dry finish.
Aberfeldy Distillery is nestled within a lush valley in the foothills of the Central Highlands of Scotland. Known as the ‘Golden Dram’, the distillery’s water source is the famous Pitilie Burn, renowned locally for its water quality and famed for its deposits of alluvial gold. Time-honoured techniques, such as longer fermentation, conjure rare honeyed notes – key to the signature sweetness of Aberfeldy’s malts.
I pick up baked yellow fruits (banana, pear, quince) and round, lightly toasted scents of malt in the aroma. Palate entry offers clean, crisp tastes of dry breakfast cereal and lightly toasted barley malt; by midpalate, the dry to off-dry flavor profile includes oak-induced vanilla, light toffee, and nougat. Ends on a woody note.
